Sunexpress B738 at Kayseri on Apr 4th 2014, EGPWS warnings during LOC intercept

A Sunexpress Germany Boeing 737-800, registration D-ASXD performing flight XG-1761 from Stuttgart (Germany) to Kayseri (Turkey) with 188 passengers and 7 crew, was on approach to Kayseri's runway 25 descending from 7500 to 6200 feet. While turning to intercept the localizer runway 25 the aicraft overshot the extended centerline towards the south while still in the descent, the EGPWS issued a "TERRAIN" caution. The crew increased the bank angle to turn onto the centerline and arrested the descent to climb back to 6800 feet, 15 seconds after the "TERRAIN" caution the EGPWS activated a "PULL UP" warning. The aircraft climbed to 6850 feet, the EGPWS warning ceased and the crew continued the approach for a safe landing.

Germany's BFU reported in their April Bulletin released Sep 5th 2014, that the aircraft was intercepting the ILS runway 25 from the north towards the south and had gone through the localizer when the EGPWS activated. When the PULL UP warning occurred the aircraft was north of the extended center line again, the aircraft was at 6700 feet MSL at that time. The occurrence was rated a serious incident and an investigation by the BFU has been opened.
