Delta MD88 at Madison on Feb 18th 2014, rejected takeoff

A Delta Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-88, registration N964DL performing flight DL-2257 from Madison,WI to Atlanta,GA (USA), was accelerating for takeoff from Madison's runway 18 at high speed due to a right hand engine (JT8D) failure. The aircraft slowed safely and stopped on the runway.

The FAA reported the occurrence was rated an accident, the engine and aircraft received substantial damage. The aircraft was able to taxi to the apron. The engine had suffered fan blade damage.
