Vanilla A320 at Tokyo on May 3rd 2014, nose gear steering problems

A Vanilla Air Airbus A320-200, registration JA8385 performing flight JW-806 from Okinawa to Tokyo Narita (Japan), was descending towards Tokyo when the crew reported a possible nose gear steering issue and entered a hold to work the checklists and attempt a reset of the system. The crew subsequently reported ready for the approach and landed safely at Narita Airport, rolled out safely but stopped on the runway. The aircraft was towed to the apron.

A passenger reported the aircraft had been pushed back in Okinawa and was about to commence taxi, but was sitting idle for about 5-10 minutes on the taxiway, then the captain announced there had been a nose gear steering problem and they can't taxi. The aircraft would be towed back to the gate and engineers would attempt to reset the system. About 20 minutes later the captain announced the system had successfully been reset. The aircraft taxied for departure and departed without further incident. While descending towards Tokyo the captain announced that they had again received the nose gear indication. After a hold of about 30 minutes the captain announced that the attempts to reset the system had been ineffective, however, the worst that could happen would be they would veer into the grass. Flight attendants demonstrated the brace position. The aircraft touched down safely, steering efforts could be felt, the aircraft slowed but stopped on the runway. The captain announced that the nose gear steering had failed at low speed and they needed to be towed in.
