Citywing L410 near Isle of Man on Feb 15th 2014, engine shut down in flight

A Citywing/Van Air Let L-410, registration OK-TCA performing flight V9-505 from Belfast City,NI to Isle of Man (UK), was descending towards Isle of Man when the left hand engine (M601E) lost power and the autofeather started to cycle the propeller between feathered and operational position. The crew shut the left hand engine down and continued for a safe landing at Ronaldway Airport on the Isle of Man.

The Czech UZPLN (involved because of Czech registration and Czech operator) reported in their quarterly bulletin a post flight examination revealed oil leaking from the left hand engine's nacelle. The engine was removed from the aircraft and sent for further analysis by the engine manufacturer. The examination revealed metallic particles in the engine oil and sensors, the teeth of the crown gear box wheel drive were found damaged. The propeller governor's oil supply was found blocked with metallic particles resulting in the controller being unable to spin. Following the finding of the damage to the propeller governor more damage was found to the roller bearing of the pump controller. An investigation has been opened which is going to result in a final report.
