Chautauqua E145 at New York on Jul 28th 2014, could not retract all gear
A Chautauqua Embraer ERJ-145 on behalf of Delta Airlines, registration N565RP performing flight RP-6093/DL-6093 from New York La Guardia,NY to Dayton,OH (USA) with 41 passengers and 3 crew, was climbing out of La Guardia's runway 04 when the crew, climbing through about 6000 feet, requested to maintain 10,000 or 15,000 feet, they got a landing gear not coming up. The aircraft levelled off at 12,000 feet and entered a holding to troubleshoot the issue, about 5 minutes later the crew indicated they would not continue their flight but divert. The aircraft continued to hold on radar vectors at 12,000 feet for about one hour, then the crew asked a "silly question" whether JFK Airport would have lighting equipment to be able to do a visual inspection of the landing gear during a fly by. The crew declared emergency reporting, they had managed to get their gear down and receive three greens but still weren't sure what the issue was. They requested a low approach to JFK's runway 31R, so that the left main gear with the problem would be on the tower side and then circle to land on 31L. The aircraft performed a low approach to JFK's runway 31R with the instruction to turn towards Canarsie VOR after overflying the runway, tower got concerned due to a parallel approach to runway 31L in case of go-around would follow the same track, tower adivsed that traffic that they would follow the traffic on low approach to 31R in case of go-around. The aircraft to 31L landed safely. After being handed off to departure again the departure controller advised that the observers on the ground due to darkness could not see whether the tyre on the left main was intact, however, all gear was down. The crew advised they'd now go for the full stop landing on runway 31L and would probably take some time on the runway, a bus should take the passengers from the runway to the terminal. After the Embraer had touched down on runway 31L the runway was "officially closed", tower advised he couldn't see anything abnormal. The aircraft came to a safe stop, the crew advised the gear appeared to be holding for now, but they wanted the passengers to get off the aircraft as quickly as possible. The passengers disembarked normally onto the runway and were bussed to the terminal.
The aircraft was towed to the apron.
