Precision AT72 near Kilimanjaro on Jul 10th 2014, engine seized and runway excursion

A Precision Air Services Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration 5H-PWA performing flight PW-415 from Mwanza to Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) with 40 people on board, was enroute near Kilimanjaro (Tanzania) when the right hand engine (PW127) seized prompting the crew to divert to Kilimanjaro. The aircraft landed on runway 09 but veered left hitting a runway light and exiting the paved surface of the runway before the crew was able to steer the aircraft back onto the runway about 180 meters further down the runway. There were no injuries, the aircraft sustained substantial damage.

The French BEA reported in their weekly bulletin that Tanzania's AIB is investigating the occurrence rated an accident.
