Blue Bird F50 at Guriceel on Apr 20th 2014, overran runway

A Blue Bird Aviation Fokker 50, registration 5Y-VVJ performing a flight from Nairobi Wilson (Kenya) to Guriceel (Somalia), landed at Guriceel but overran the end of the runway and came to a stop on rough terrain with the left main wing torn, so that the aircraft rested on its nose gear, right main gear and left wing tip and left engine. No injuries were reported, the aircraft sustained substantial damage.

Local Somali media reported the flight carried 6 tonnes of Khat as cargo.

The tail number was painted out.

The airline operates three Fokker 50, 5Y-VVG (red wingtips), 5Y-VVH (in the Netherlands for major maintenance) and 5Y-VVJ (white wingtips).

The airline had already lost another Fokker 50, registration 5Y-VVK, in Guriceel on Nov 10th 2011 as result of a runway excursion.
