A Wasaya Airways Beech 1900D, registration C-FWXL performing flight WSG-985 from Sachigo Lake,ON to Sioux Lookout,ON (Canada) with 11 people on board, was climbing out of Sachigo Lake when the flight crew got aware of increased wind sound. While checking the instrument panel no abnormal indications were observed. One of the pilots went to check whether the main cabin door was securely latched when it popped open by about 6 inches and the door warning light illuminated. The appropriate checklists were carried out, the crew declared emergency and initated the return to Sachigo Lake. The door restraining cable contacted the left hand propeller on the way back. While the aircraft was configured for landing and slowed the door opened further until about 90 degrees to the fuselage. Upon touchdown the door fully opened and contacted the runway surface, the aircraft slowed without further incident and vacated the runway.
The Canadian TSB reported there were no injuries, the aircraft sustained damage to the left hand propeller and main cabin door. The aircraft is being examined for a ferry permit to a repair facility. There were two similiar occurrences reported by the NTSB.
