UPS A306 at Sacramento on Jul 30th 2014, engine problems

A UPS Airbus A300-600, registration N165UP performing flight 5X-953 from Sacramento Mather,CA to Ontario,CA (USA) with4 crew, was climbing out of Mather Airport's runway 22L when the crew stopped the climb at 9000 feet after the right hand engine (PW4158) had emitted a loud bang. The crew returned to Mather Airport for a safe landing on runway 22L about 20 minutes after departure. The aircraft stopped briefly on the adjacent taxiway to have emergency services check the right hand engine, then taxied to the apron.

Ground observers reported hearing a boom from the aircraft and seeing sparks flying off the aircraft.
