TUIFly B738 enroute on Mar 18th 2014, first officer incapacitated

A TUIFly Boeing 737-800, registration D-AHFX performing flight X3-6955 from Hurghada (Egypt) to Hanover (Germany), was enroute about 3 hours into the flight when the first officer reported feeling unwell and handed control of the aircraft to the captain. About 30 minutes later the first officer left the cockpit for the toilet, another 10 minutes later the first officer collapsed in front of the forward galley and was unable to continue duties. Another TUIFly captain, travelling on the aircraft as passenger, assumed duty as pilot monitoring. The aircraft continued to Hanover for a safe landing about 5 hours after departure and 30 minutes ahead of schedule arrival time.

Germany's BFU reported in their monthly bulletin that the symptoms shown by the first officer suggested food poisoning. Some time before becoming incapacitated the first officer had taken a meal on board, another meal of the same batch was examined in laboratory without any finding. An investigation is ongoing.
