TAP A320 near Paris on Jul 8th 2014, technical problems prompt emergency descent

A TAP Airbus A320-200, registration CS-TQD performing flight TP-668 from Lisbon (Portugal) to Amsterdam (Netherlands) with 66 passengers and 6 crew, was enroute at FL380 about 50nm west of Paris (France) when the crew declared emergency and initiated an emergency descent reaching FL100 about 6 minutes after leaving FL380 (average rate of descent 4700 fpm, peak about 8000 fpm rate of descent), the passenger oxygen masks were released. The aircraft diverted to Paris' Orly Airport and landed safely on runway 24 about 20 minutes after leaving FL380. The aircraft taxied to the apron without stop.

A listener on frequency reported the engine (CFM56) fire bell could be heard during radio transmissions from the aircraft to air traffic control.

Passengers reported they were told about an engine fire indication by the crew.

The airline reported no engine fire had occurred and reported the aircraft suffered some technical problem with the air conditioning prompting the diversion to Paris. The passengers have already been brought to Amsterdam.
