Skywest CRJ2 at San Francisco on Dec 22nd 2013, could not retract gear

A Skywest Canadair CRJ-200 on behalf of United, registration N960SW performing flight OO-6340/UA-6340 from San Francisco,CA to Colorado Springs,CO (USA), was in the initial climb out of San Francisco's runway 01R when upon contacting departure the crew requested to level off reporting they had a hard time retracting the gear. After working the checklists the crew decided to return to San Francisco and landed safely on runway 28L about 11 minutes after departure.

A replacement CRJ-200 registration N943SW reached Colorado Springs with a delay of 2.5 hours.

A passenger reported the crew announced they had apparently lost the nose wheel steering and needed to be towed in. The aircraft was towed to the gate.
