Skywest CRJ2 at Regina on Jan 23rd 2014, unlocked thrust reverser, engine shut down in flight
A Skywest Airlines Canadair CRJ-200 on behalf of United, registration N976SW performing flight OO-5251/UA-5251 from Regina,SK (Canada) to Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA) with 52 people on board, was climbing out of Regina when the crew stopped the climb at 14000 feet reporting problems with the left hand engine (CF34). The crew worked the relevant checklists then reported they were unable to restow the left hand thrust reverser and had to shut the left hand engine down. The aircraft returned to Regina for a safe landing about 25 minutes after departure.
The Canadian TSB reported there were no aerodynamic effects after the crew received a "L REV UNLOCKED". The crew worked the relevant checklists but were unable to stow the reverser, shut the engine down as a precaution.
