Jazz DH8C at Nanaimo on Dec 12th 2013, engine fire
A Jazz de Havilland Dash 8-300, registration C-FACV performing flight QK-8258 from Nanaimo,BC to Vancouver,BC (Canada) with 35 passengers and 3 crew, was climbing out of Nanaimo's runway 16 when the right hand engine emitted a loud bang and emitted flames. The crew shut the engine down, activated the engine fire suppression and returned to Nanaimo for a safe landing on runway 16 about 10 minutes after departure. The aircraft stopped on the runway, the occupants rapidly disembarked onto the runway.
The airport was closed for about 4 hours.
The airline reported the crew observed an engine oil problem just to flames being observed from the engine, the crew discharged engine fire agent successfully extinguishing the flames and performed a safe landing.
Passengers reported a loud bang followed by streaks of flames were emitted by the engine.
