Jazz CRJ2 near New York on Apr 30th 2014, control difficulties

A Jazz Canadair CRJ-200, registration C-GKEK performing flight QK-7733 from New York La Guardia,NY (USA) to Ottawa,ON (Canada) with 53 people on board, was climbing from FL260 to FL320 on autopilot in LNAV mode. The aircraft entered a left hand turn on autopilot, but remained in the left turn despite turning through the required new heading. The crew disconnected the autopilot and attempted to roll the wings level, however, found the controls stiff with the aircraft still remaining in the left turn. The crew applied power to the yoke to return the aircraft to wings level, a snap occurred in the controls then the wheel permitted to return the aircraft to wings level. The crew stopped the climb at FL280, worked the related checklists and found the aircraft fully controllable, therefore decided to continue the flight to Ottawa where the aircraft landed safely about 40 minutes later.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance replaced the electronically controller servo actuator of the ailerons which was found sticking. All cables and pulleys were examined with no faults found. A subsequent test flight revealed no further fault and the aircraft was returned to service.
