Garuda B738 at Jakarta and Surabaya on Feb 1st 2014, damaged tyre on takeoff, came to stop with burst tyre

A Garuda Boeing 737-800, registration PK-GFW performing flight GA-316 from Jakarta to Surabaya (Indonesia) with 104 passengers, was descending towards Surabaya but made a low approach to runway 28 first overflying the runway at about 600 feet to have the gear inspected from the ground before positioning for another approach. The aircraft landed on Surabaya's runway 28 at 15:00L (08:00Z) and came to a stop on the runway with the left outboard main tyre damaged and deflated and was disabled. The passengers disembarked onto the runway and were bussed to the terminal.

The airport was temporarily closed for about one hour until the aircraft was moved to the apron.

The airport reported the tyre developed a problem during takeoff at Jakarta, there was no problem with the runway at Surabaya or debris on the runway.

About 5 hours prior to this occurrence a Lion Air Boeing 737-900 suffered a hard landing on runway 28, see Accident: Lion B739 at Surabaya on Feb 1st 2014, hard landing.

Indonesia's National Transportation Safety Committee opened an investigation into both occurrences at Surabaya of Feb 1st 2014.

An aviation source posting from Morocco claims on Pprune, that a Lionair Boeing 737-900, registration PK-LFH, had landed on Surabaya's runway a few minutes prior to the Garuda and suffered a hard landing and tail strike leaving debris on the runway, then taxied to the apron without notifying ATC. Debris remaining on the runway then caused the damage of the Garuda.

The photos reportedly showing PK-LFH only show details, but do not permit to identify airframe, time or airport. The same applies for photos supposedly showing PK-GFW with engine damage and wheel and tyre damage, these photos are disproven by TV coverage from Indonesia's MetroTV (see below).
