El Al B763 near Tel Aviv on Sep 7th 2014, engine shut down in flight

A El Al Boeing 767-300, registration 4X-EAK performing flight LY-29 from Tel Aviv (Israel) to Toronto,ON (Canada) with 194 passengers, had just reached cruise level 300 when the left hand engine (PW4060) emitted two loud bangs prompting the crew to shut the engine down and return to Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport for a safe landing on runway 12 about 40 minutes after departure.

Passengers reported there were two loud bangs from the left hand side, later the captain announced they had a problem with the left hand engine and were returning to Tel Aviv.

The airline reported one of the engines had to be shut down, the aircraft returned to Tel Aviv, the malfunction of the engine is being investigated.

A replacement Boeing 767-300 registration 4X-EAM reached Toronto with a delay of 6:15 hours.
