ANZ A320 at Melbourne on Jan 9th 2014, engine shut down in flight

An ANZ Air New Zealand Airbus A320-200, registration ZK-OJC performing flight NZ-726 from Melbourne,VI (Australia) to Auckland (New Zealand), was climbing through about 10,000 feet out of Melbourne's runway 34 when the crew stopped the climb reporting problems with the right hand engine (V2527) suspecting a fuel leak. The right hand engine was shut down. After holding at 10,000 feet for about 6 minutes the aircraft returned to Melbourne for a safe landing on runway 34 about 25 minutes after departure.

While the aircraft was holding and preparing for the return aircraft inbound to Melbourne were instructed to enter holding just before commencing their descent from cruise levels, e.g. at FL360, advising about a delay of 5 to 20 minutes due to an ongoing PAN call.

The flight was cancelled.

The airline confirmed an engine fault the cause of which is being investigated.
