American B763 near Kansas City on Jan 5th 2014, USB stick prompts diversion
An American Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N344AN performing flight AA-24 from San Francisco,CA to New York JFK,NY (USA) with 227 people on board, was enroute at FL370 about 250nm northeast of Kansas City,MO and about 100nm west of Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA) when the crew decided to divert to Kansas City due to suspicious item found in one of the lavatories of the aircraft. The aircraft landed safely on Kansas City's runway 01R about 55 minutes later and taxied to a remote parking position, where a bomb squad searched the aircraft and the item, which was identified as a non-explosive USB stick.
The aircraft was able to resume the flight after about 5.5 hours on the ground in Kansas City and reached New York with a delay of 7.5 hours.
