American B752 at Dallas on May 15th 2014, engine shut down in flight

An Amercian Airlines Boeing 757-200, registration N625AA performing flight AA-2287 from Dallas Ft. Worth,TX to Tulsa,OK (USA) with 183 people on board, was in the initial climb out of Dallas' runway 17R when the right hand engine (RB211) emitted a loud bang and streaks of flames prompting tower to alert the crew of flames out of the right hand engine. The crew reported everything appeared to be fine and checked again whether there were flames from the right hand side. Tower cleared the aircraft for an immediate left hand turn to return and land on runway 31R. The crew decided however they were not in a position to land on 31R and they needed to use runway 35L. The aircraft landed safely on runway 35L about 20 minutes after departure.

The airline reported there had been no engine fire despite the tower reporting flames, there had been a "maintenance issue".
