Alaska B738 over Pacific on Feb 10th 2014, problem with navigation system
An Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N565AS performing flight AS-837 from San Jose,CA to Honolulu,HI (USA) with 132 passengers and 6 crew, was enroute at FL360 about 160nm southwest of San Jose over the Pacific Ocean when the crew declared emergency reporting a power problem to one of the aircraft navigation systems. The aircraft turned around and returned to San Jose. While on approach to San Jose the crew cancelled emergency, later telling tower they had been an emergency aircraft, and landed safely on San Jose's runway 30L about 75 minutes after departure.
A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration N508AS, initially assigned to flight AS-227, reached Honolulu with a delay of 3 hours.
The incident aircraft was able to depart for flight AS-227 to Seattle,WA (USA) with a delay of 2 hours.
The airline reported one of six redundant navigation systems had failed temporarily due to a power problem, the captain decided to return out of abundance of caution.
