Air China A332 at London on Sep 7th 2014, hydraulic failure
An Air China Airbus A330-200, registration B-6092 performing flight CA-852 from London Gatwick,EN (UK) to Beijing (China), suffered a hydraulic failure during initial climb out of Gatwick's runway 08R preventing a full gear retraction. The aircraft stopped the climb at FL070, dumped fuel at FL080 and returned to London Gatwick for a safe landing with open gear doors on runway 26L about 2 hours after departure. The aircraft stopped on the runway and was towed to the apron.
The airline reported a hydraulic failure immediately after takeoff forced the crew to return the aircraft to London.
Passengers reported the captain announced the gear could not be retracted requiring them to return to London.
An observer on the ground reported the nose gear had retracted but the main gear struts were still down when the aircraft climbed out of Gatwick.
