Air Canada A321 at Toronto on Jun 23rd 2014, rejected takeoff

An Air Canada Airbus A321-200, registration C-GJVX performing flight AC-159 from Toronto,ON to Edmonton,AB (Canada) with 175 people on board, was accelerating for takeoff from Toronto's runway 05 when the crew rejected takeoff at low speed due to the failure of the left hand engine (CFM56), that emitted a red flash and a loud bang. The aircraft slowed safely, emergency services responded and inspected the aircraft, which taxied to the apron on own power afterwards. A runway inspection revealed no debris on the runway.

The Canadian TSB reported the engine suffered a contained turbine failure, the airline is investigating.

A replacement Airbus A321-200 reached Edmonton with a delay of 2:40 hours.
