Westjet B736 near Winnipeg on Jan 25th 2014, engine oil in roller coaster
A Westjet Boeing 737-600, registration C-GWSB performing flight WS-709 from Toronto,ON to Vancouver,BC (Canada) with 118 people on board, was enroute at FL380 near Winnipeg when the crew received indications of #1 engine (CFM56) low oil quantity of about 3 quarts, oil temperature and pressure remained normal however prompting the crew to continue the flight with heightened monitoring of the engine. About 45 minutes after the first observation of low oil quantity the oil pressure began to decrease and started oscillating between normal and amber band, the crew decided to divert to Winnipeg,MB (Canada) about 45nm southwest of Winnipeg. About 15 minutes later the quantity reduced to 0 quarts, the oil pressure still fluctuates above and into the amber band, the crew kept the engine running until after safe landing.
The Canadian TSB reported a seal on the fuel pump accessory gear box was replaced.
