VivaAerobus B733 over Mexico on Jun 30th 2014, the result of high-speed repair
A VivaAerobus Boeing 737-300, registration XA-VIV performing flight VB-1100 from Monterrey to Tampico (Mexico), was enroute when passengers observed and videotaped, that something like duct tape peeled off the left hand engine's mount and opened a hole. The aircraft continued to Tampico for a safe landing.
The photos and video currently create huge waves in Mexico inflaming a discussion about safetly of low cost carriers.
The airline said in a statement that a high speed (non-adhesive) tape, certified for this type of temporary repair, had been used for a temporary fix. Although the tape did come off in flight this did not compromise safety of flight.
