Swiss A321 at Berlin on Aug 5th 2014, hydraulic failure

A Swiss Airbus A321-200, registration HB-IOL performing flight LX-971 from Berlin Tegel (Germany) to Zurich (Switzerland), was climbing out of Berlin when cabin crew reported a strange sound to the flight deck and one of the pilots came back to the cabin to check the situation. The crew subsequently continued the flight to Zurich for a safe landing on runway 16. The aircraft stopped on the runway and was checked by emergency services.

A passenger reported that shortly after departure from Berlin a strange sound, similiar to barking dogs (editorial note: suggesting the power transfer unit between hydraulic systems was operating), could be heard in the cabin, which was promptly reported to the flight deck by cabin crew. A pilot came back into the cabin to assess the sound, talked to the flight attendant, then returned to the cockpit, the aircraft turned and continued to Zurich. A short time prior to landing the captain announced they had a technical problem with the hydraulics, they would stop on the runway and be towed to the gate. Following landing emergency services cooled the brakes, the aircraft was subsequently towed to the apron.
