Emirates A388 at Auckland on Dec 22nd 2013, flapless landing
An Emirates Airlines Airbus A380-800, registration A6-EDE performing flight EK-406 from Melbourne,VI (Australia) to Auckland (New Zealand), was on approach to Auckland's runway 23L when the crew stopped the descent at about 4000 feet reporting a problem with the flaps and entered a hold to work the checklists. The crew subsequently reported they could not resolve the issue and would need to perform a flaps up landing requiring the full length of the runway. The aircraft landed safely on Auckland's runway 23L at a higher than normal speed about 35 minutes later, vacated the runway at the last exit and had the brakes inspected by emergency services.
The aircraft was able to depart for the return flight EK-408 with a minor delay.
A listener on frequency reported that the crew aborted the approach to Auckland's runway 23L reporting they were unable to extend the flaps for landing. The aircraft entered a hold, the crew subsequently reported they needed to perform a flapless landing at high speed and would need the entire length of the runway. Emergency services went into their stand by positions for the landing but were stood down shortly after landing.
