Delta B752 over Pacific on Nov 9th 2014, engine shut down in flight
A Delta Airlines Boeing 757-200, registration N545US performing flight DL-294 from Osaka Kansai (Japan) to Guam (Guam) with 171 people on board, was enroute at FL360 over the Pacific Ocean when the crew needed to shut the left hand engine (PW2037) down. The aircraft diverted to Iwo Jima Island Airport (Japan), located about 650nm southsoutheast of Osaka and 720nm northnorthwest of Guam for a safe landing.
Japan's Ministry of Transport reported the aircraft was about 450km/240nm southsoutheast of Iwo Jima Island when the crew reported a problem with the left hand engine and decided to divert to Iwo Jima.
A replacement Boeing 757-200 registration N536US was dispatched to Iwo Jima, continued the flight and reached Guam with a delay of 9:40 hours.
