Allegiant MD83 near Salt Lake City on Jun 13th 2014, hydraulic problem

An Allegiant McDonnell Douglas MD-83, flight G4-560 from Las Vegas,NV to Missoula,MT (USA), was enroute at FL350 about 45nm south of Salt Lake City,UT (USA) when the crew requested and was cleared to descend to FL280. After levelling off at FL280 ATC inquired whether the aircraft had lost the reduced vertical minimum separation capability, the crew replied they were restoring that capability, the aircraft was cleared direct to Missoula. The aircraft continued towards Missoula at FL280 for about 15 minutes when about 100nm north of Salt Lake City the crew turned around setting course towards Salt Lake City reporting a hydraulic problem before deciding to divert to Wendover,UT (USA), where the aircraft landed safely.

A replacement MD-83 reached Missoula with a delay of 5.5 hours.

The airline reported a hydraulics warning light activated.
