Airtran B712 at Ft. Lauderdale on Dec 7th 2013, engine shut down in flight
An Airtran Boeing 717-200, flight FL-289 from Fort Lauderdale,FL to Baltimore,MD (USA), was climbing out of Fort Lauderdale's runway 10L when the right hand engine emitted a number of bangs prompting the crew to shut the engine down, stop the climb at about 2500 feet and to return to Fort Lauderdale, the landing clearance on runway 10L for another flight was cancelled and the aircraft instructed to go around. The Boeing 717-200 landed safely on runway 10L about 10 minutes after departure.
A replacement Boeing 717-200 reached Baltimore with a delay of 4.5 hours.
