Air Canada B773 enroute on Feb 11th 2014, fuel scavenge problem leads to minimum fuel

An Air Canada Boeing 777-300, registration C-FIUW performing flight AC-87 (dep Feb 10th) from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Shanghai (China) with 360 people on board, was enroute when the crew noticed a higher fuel burn than normal and received indication of the failure of the center fuel tank scavenge system. The crew continued to Shanghai but declared minimum fuel on arrival into Shanghai. The aircraft landed safely.

Canada's TSB reported that maintenance subsequently tested the fuel scavenge system and found it serviceable. The TSB stated: "Ice is suspected of blocking the fuel system and Boeing is working on a service bulletin to rectify the situation. Excessive fuel burn on transpolar flights is also an area being investigated by Boeing, Air Canada, and several other airlines."
