Allegiant MD88 near St. Petersburg on Aug 4th 2014, severe turbulence injures flight attendant

An Allegiant McDonnell Douglas MD-88, flight G4-916 from Fort Lauderdale,FL to Asheville,NC (USA), was enroute at FL330 about 20nm north of Orlando,FL (USA) when the aircraft encountered severe turbulence causing an altitude deviation of about 100 feet and injuries to a flight attendant. The crew decided to divert to Saint Petersburg,FL (USA) where the aircraft landed safely about 30 minutes later.

The FAA reported a flight attendant received unknown injuries as result of severe turbulence encountered 20nm from Orlando.
