Yakutia B738 at Moscow on Jun 2nd 2014, indications of atmospheric discharge
A Yakutia Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration VP-BEP performing flight R3-802 from Simferopol (Ukraine) to Moscow Vnukovo (Russia) with 59 passengers and 6 crew, landed safely in Moscow Vnukovo following what appeared to be an uneventful flight.
Russia's Authorities reported subsequently however, that a post flight inspection of the aircraft revealed indications of discharge of atmospheric electricity on 16 rivets at the left hand and 2 rivets at the right hand side of the fuselage. In addition the left hand angle of attack sensor and the dischargers at the stabilizer were damaged.
The occurrence aircraft was able to resume service on Jun 4th 2014.
On Jun 2nd 2014 the weather was seriously clear in Moscow, however, a thunderstorm went over Simferopol at the time of departure.
Russia's news agency Interfax had reported a lightning strike happened on flight R3-801 to Simferopol on Jun 4th causing the aircraft to return to Vnukovo prompting Vnukovo Airport to comment that report was a "clear duck", see News: Yakutia B738 near Moscow on Jun 4th 2014, Interfax report lightning strike, the news agency subsequently changed their report to say that the lighting strike happened on flight R3-802 on approach to Vnukovo on Jun 4th.
