Singapore B773 and Delta A319 at Houston on Jul 3rd 2014, loss of separation
A Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration 9V-SWH performing flight SQ-61 from Houston Intercontinental,TX (USA) to Moscow Domodedovo (Russia), was climbing out of Houston's runway 15L cleared to climb to 5000 feet but continued the climb beyond 5000 feet.
A Delta Airlines Airbus A319-100, registration N347NB performing flight DL-2344 from Salt Lake City,UT to Houston Intercontinental,TX (USA), was on approach to Houston's runway 27 cleared to descend to 6000 feet, when air traffic controller advised of traffic ahead that should have stopped climbing but didn't. The crew requested to deviate around the traffic, then reported they were descending.
The Boeing stopped the climb at about 5800 feet and descended back to 5000 feet following the incident after the air traffic controller advised them they had not been cleared to climb beyond 5000 feet.
The FAA reported the separation between the two aircraft reduced to 200 feet vertical and half a mile laterally.
Both aircraft continued for safe landings at their destinations.
