Shaheen A333 near Lahore on Sep 6th 2014, engine failure

A Shaheen Airbus A330-300, registration AP-BKN performing flight NL-736 from Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) to Lahore (Pakistan) with 365 people on board, was enroute at FL370 nearing the top of descent into Lahore, when the crew noticed a loud thud from the left hand engine (CF6) followed by a decrease in N1 and thrust from the left hand engine. The thrust lever was brought to idle which returned all engine parameters into the normal range. The crew continued for a safe landing in Lahore.

The NTSB reported on Sep 23rd 2014 quoting Pakistan's Civil Aviation Authority, that the engine had suffered a low pressure turbine failure while enroute at FL370. The thrust lever was brought to idle, all parameters appeared normal with no warnings on the ECAM. The N1 remained at 68% while the flight continued to destination. Pakistan's Civil Aviation Authority is investigatin the occurrence rated an incident, the NTSB participates in the investigation representing the state of manufacture of the engines.
