Lufthansa A343 at Dallas on Aug 8th 2014, bird strike
A Lufthansa Airbus A340-300, registration D-AIGM performing flight LH-439 from Dallas Ft. Worth,TX (USA) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), was climbing through 2000 feet out of runway 17R when the crew observed a large bird hitting the aircraft at the right hand side of the nose. In the absence of any abnormal instrument readings the crew continued the flight to Frankfurt where the aircraft landed safely about 9:50 hours later.
A postflight inspection revealed the bird had left large dents at the right hand nose, parts of the bird went through engine #3 (CFM56), other parts impacted the slats. The aircraft is still on the ground in Frankfurt about 32 hours after landing in Frankfurt.
