An Exploit Valley Air Services Beech 1900D, registration C-GAAT performing flight 8K-6731 from St. John's,NL to Deer Lake,NL (Canada) with 12 people on board, was climbing out of St. John's when the first officer, pilot flying, had problems to prevent the aircraft pitching up, both right and left hand trim did not respond to crew inputs and the trim wheel could not be moved. The captain took control of the aircraft and applied force to the trim wheel and elevator control at the same time and the trim wheel moved forward to near level flight position, the nose pitched down and the aircraft stabilized in level flight. The crew levelled off at 6000 feet, decided to divert to Gander due to clear VFR weather and landed safely using elevator inputs in Gander in visual meteorologic conditions.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance found the electric trim servo was almost seized and contained metallic pieces. After the servo was replaced the trim system tested normal.
