American B763 over Atlantic on May 2nd 2014, fuel issue prevents ETOPS
An American Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N389AA performing flight AA-46 (dep May 1st) from Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA) to London Heathrow,EN (UK), was enroute at FL380 over the Atlantic Ocean about to enter the ETOPS portion of the flight when the crew conducted the required checks and detected that the left main fuel pump low pressure lights did not illuminate even though the pumps were turned off, a related EICAS message did not occur as well. The crew consulted with dispatch and decided to divert to New York's JFK Airport,NY (USA) where the aircraft landed safely about 3.5 hours later.
The remainder of the flight was cancelled.
The Canadian TSB reported that maintenance conducted tests of the fuel system but did not find any fault.
