Alaska B734 and Alaska Central Express B190 at Anchorage on May 27th 2014, near collision during go-around/takeoff
An Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-400, registration N792AS performing flight AS-135 from Portland,OR to Anchorage,AK (USA) with 143 passengers and 5 crew, was on final approach to runway 15 and was cleared to land on the shortened runway.
An Alaska Central Express Beech 1900 freighter, freight flight KO-65 from Anchorage,AK to Sand Point,AK (USA) with 2 crew, was waiting for departure from runway 15 behind another landing aircraft.
After the landing traffic had vacated the runway Tower cleared the Beech for takeoff from runway 15 advising a Boeing 737 was on a 2nm final. About one minute after issuing the takeoff clearance, at 15:09L (23:09Z), Tower instructed the Boeing to go around and turn right onto a heading of 220, subsequently amended to 250 degrees, then handed both aircraft off to departure.
The NTSB reported the Beech became airborne and turned right, the Boeing also turned right, the separation between the two aircraft reduced to 0 feet vertical and 0.25nm laterally. The occurrence was rated a near collision, an investigation has been opened.
