Wisconsin CRJ2 at New York on Dec 5th 2012, bird strike
An Air Wisconsin Canadair CRJ-200 on behalf of US Airways, registration N411ZW performing flight US-3852 from Philadelphia,PA to New York La Guardia,NY (USA) with 50 passengers and 3 crew, was descending through 7000 feet towards La Guardia Airport at about 200 KIAS when the aircraft took a bird strike. The crew continued the approach for a normal landing. There were no injuries, the aircraft sustained substantial damage however.
The NTSB reported in a brief factual report: "Structural damage was found on skin panels, bulkheads, stringers, frames, nose landing gear support structure, ADG enclosure, leading edges, and piccolo ducts. The forward pressure bulkhead was dented, deformed, and punctured in several areas, affecting the structural strength of the bulkhead and require major repair or replacement, thereby qualifying as substantial damage."
The bird was identified as a snow goose.
