Hevilift DHC6 near Port Moresby on Sep 20th 2014, impact with terrain

A Hevilift de Havilland DHC-6-300 Twin Otter, registration P2-KSF performing a charter flight from Woitape to Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea) with 7 passengers and 2 crew, was descending towards Port Moresby when the aircraft contacted tree tops at about 09:35L (23:35Z Sep 19th) and impacted the side of Mount Lawes, about 12km/6.5nm north of Port Moresby's Jacksons International Airport. Both flight crew and a passenger died on the site, another passenger died later in hospital care, 5 passengers survived with various degrees of injuries, three have been discharged from hospital care already.

Papua New Guinea's Accident Investigation Commission (PNGAIC) have opened an investigation into the accident estimating a preliminary report will be released in 30 days. The AIC reported: "Of the nine persons on board, four including the two pilots, did not survive the impact."

No weather data are available for Port Moresby, the weather was generally described as poor with low cloud and has not been ruled out as a factor into the accident.
