Easyjet A319 near Innsbruck on Feb 19th 2014, engine shut down in flight

An Easyjet Airbus A319-100, registration G-EZAT performing flight U2-5395 from London Gatwick,EN (UK) to Innsbruck (Austria), was descending through FL250 towards Innsbruck when the crew reported near Hohenems (Austria) that they needed to shut their right hand engine (CFM56) down. The crew decided to divert to Zurich (Switzerland), turned the aircraft around and landed safely on Zurich's runway 14 (speed over ground about 130 knots) about 20 minutes after turning around. The aircraft vacated the runway and stopped on taxiway H3, shut down the left hand engine and requested emergency services to check the brakes and both engines. After inspection by emergency services the left hand engine was started again and the aircraft taxied to the gate.

Official statement of the Easy Jet:

"EasyJet can confirm that flight EZY5395 from London Gatwick to Innsbruck diverted to Zurich due to a technical issue with the aircraft's  number 2 engine.  The flight landed safely at Zurich Airport at 15:22 (local time) where passengers disembarked as normal. "The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is easyJet's highest priority and the emergency services were therefore alerted ahead of the flight's arrival at Zurich Airport and attended as a precautionary measure.  "Transport has been arranged for all affected passengers to continue their journeys to and from Innsbruck and we apologise for any inconvenience experienced due to the diversion and subsequent delay."
