Poland Air Atlas 2009

Polska Atlas Lotniczy 2009 - okładka

The latest edition (current as of June 2009 including minor changes effective July 30th) of Air Atlas Poland 2009, an update to the well received Air Atlas Poland 2005, is now available!

We are proud of the fact that for most pilots traversing Polish airspace and visiting Polish airfields and airstrips it has become an obligatory piece of equipment.

We have received many comments and ideas for improving the Atlas over the time that has gone by from it's previous edition. Most of them have been used in the 2009 issue. Building on the experience we gained recently publishing the 1:1 000 000 flight map of Poland and the prvious edition of the Atlas itself we have decided to introduce many changes that dramatically add both information and easy of use enhancements.

We have changed both the format and the publication form. The Atlas now consists of separate pages in a practical binder. Now you can take only the materials relevant to your flight schedule - an issue raised by many users of the former edition. This format also allows for easier updates in the future.

Poland Air Atlas is now a fully bilingual publication (PL and EN), containing information on 133 aerodromes complete with aerial photographs and 1:200000 scale maps. New are terrain contours given in feet for all cartographic material. This semmingly small modification should definitely help in terrain perception.

In order to preserve the 1:200 000 scale for all maps, 23 aerodromes have been depicted on pages larger than the A5 format. These are:

Poland Air Atlas also contains over 100 pages of  general knowledge on conducting flights in Warszawa FIR, including:
- VFR flight rules
- Meteorological information (map analysis, sample bulletins)
- Obligatory aircraft equipment specifications
- Flight plan forms filling with examples given
- Radio communication glossary
- VFR night flights
- VFR special flights
- Contact data for majority of  Polish aviation authorities and institutions
- Latest definitions and abbreviations
- Flight procedures for prohibited, restricted and dangerous zones
- visible signals used
- aircraft interception
- search and rescue information
- radionavigation aids list (including TACAN with frequencies)
- conversion tables
… and more

Practical information such as airfield services, available hotels, taxis and FTO's/TRTO's have been added to the contents of the Atlas. All the information for this edition has been gathered and professionally maintained over the last 2 years. We would like to thank everyone who helped us in this task and replied to our 2008 airfield survey.

Constant change is painfull reality for Polish airspace. Please remember that we have taken an arbitrary decision on the "freeze date" of all information contained in Air Atlas Poland so that it could be finally published. All information is compliant with the April issue of AIP.

We hope that Air Atlas Poland 2009 will be as popular as it's previous edition and will find it's place with every pilot who flies the Polish airways.

Atlas reviews:

"For every pilot, this Atlas should be indispensible in the flight planning process. It's a marvellous introduction to the information contained in AIP and is a great source for inormation on airfields and sites that we need to make the flight safely. It has all the information needed both before and during the flight."
